The statistics demonstrate that the great fighter battles fought over the Western Desert of North Africa were amongst the most intensely contested of World war II. Robert Taylor's limited edition, the last in his popular Protagonists Series, records Marseille's jubilant low pass as he returns to his Desert airstrip having just achieved his 100th victory .

Fighters pilots of JG 27 clamber from their Me109s after a mission against the R.A.F. in the western desert June 1942. Above them Hans-Joachim Marseille celebrates his 100th air victor with a low level pass over his dusty airstrip.
