In August 1940, Frank Carey led No. 43 Squadron's 'A' Flight into 'Schwarms' of Ju87s, escorted by Me109s. Though heavily outnumbered, Carey accounted for four Ju87s before running out of ammunition. Robert Taylor's painting captures the trauma of the battle.

Frank Carey was generally considered to have been one of the R.A.F.'s most outstanding fighter pilots in World War II.
